Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report for July 10, 2009

Hello from Big BUGGY! ...oops Big Winnie!

The bug hatches went strong for a week but are tapering down now. Deep structure is now clearing up from the little buggers. Fishing has been on the tough side.

You can still catch fish, but you have to be creative. Spinners and crawlers rigged up high has worked. 16th to 8th oz jigs tipped with 2 inches of crawlers has worked ok also. Rigging the humps north and west have been ok, too.

Deeper has been better lately. Be patient as the food sources for the fish has exploded. Bite windows are short but several times a day. 18 to 30 feet of water has been the best.

Some shallow water fish are going when the wind blows. The tiny jigs and crawler pieces work.

Panfish are going well in several area lakes. Weed edges early and late in the day are best. The perch bite is good on the same hump areas as the walleyes. Seems as though if the walleyes are present, the perch are on a close-by hump. Move around until you find them. Water temps in the low 70 range.

Time to go fishing!
