Lake Winnibigoshish Fishing Report for July 30, 2009

Lake Winnie has been good this week. The walleye bite is still going strong! The weed bite is ok in 6.5 to 8 feet of water with a jig and a minnow moving rather fast. Rigging the main lake bars and humps has also produced good fish. Leeches and crawlers rigged with up to an 8-foot snell has been the best rig and working very well.

If you like to crank the flats in the 11 to 15 foot range, just cover water at 2 to 2.5 mph with tail-dancers or shadraps. Fish are scattered, so move until you get into the fish, then circle back. The main point is this: any way you like to fish, you can right now.

The perch bite is good for those going for them, although the perch have stayed deeper - 12 to 28 feet is best. The size of the perch has been very good lately.

The panfish bite is still going well on the smaller lakes in the area. Successful fishermen are hitting the weed lines early and late in the day.

The pike bite is slow, but expected to pick up relatively soon.

Time to go fishing!
