Lake Winnie Ice Fishing Report for December 27, 2009

Hello, from Big Winnie!

The fishing is starting to get good for walleyes and pike. The walleye bite on the bar from Big Musky to the backside of Little Musky is good, as is the Island and the humps east. Fishing is best in 15 to 24 feet. Buckshot rattles, spoons in gold or glow green with a minnow head worked 6 inches to 3 feet off bottom.

Pike are cruising the bar tops in 12 to 16 feet. 1 to 3 feet up is best. Shoreline drops are also working. The west side of Sugar island River bar and Snag are all kicking out fish.

The perch bite has been spotty. Fish the 20 to 30 foot range; you will get some, but you have to drill a lot of holes. Smaller glow-jigs or a plain hook bobber with a fat head works. Catch 5 or 6 fish and you will need to move off a little to another hole. East side stumps up to south Moxeys has some fish, but scattered.

Ice conditions are holding up good now. We have about 8 iches of snow and 15 to 16 inches of ice. You can get off the road as this snow is all we got. No flooding, yet. Stay a bit away from the crowds and you will be ok.

We have plowed roads up the east side and out to Musky. Most resorts have started making roads. Call ahead to get up-to-the-minute info.

See you on the ice!
