Lake Winnibigoshish Ice Fishing Report for January 22, 2010

Hello, from Lake Winnibigoshish!

The jumbo perch bite is still going very strong, with many very satisfied fihermen and fisherwomen. Perch are active mostly in 25 to 40 feet of water and can be found off the main lake bars. The humps, up north, off of the west side and over to the humps north of the Third River Bar are producing nice sizes and quantities of perch.

The walleye bite is terrific right now along the bar tops in 15 to 24 feet or the humps at 22 to 26 feet, producing the greatest walleye numbers. Bigger spoons and minnow heads are best for walleyes right now.

The perch are liking a plain hook with a minnow or small glow jigs with minnows. Work the perch 1 to 3 feet off the bottom for the bigger, jumbo perch. The shore drops are also working from 18 to 28 feet for a mixed bag of fish.

The roads, at this time, remain in good condition and we have been successful at taking care of them. At Denny's Resort, we have roads made that run up to north bar.

Travel is good and safe on most of the lake. Cutfoot is kicking out some nice crappies in the evening. The best bite is on glow jigs and crappie minnows in 23 to 30 feet off water.

It's a great time to be fishing Lake Winnibigoshish right now. Want to make sure you see the Vikings game on Sunday against New Orleans? You can trust that we'll be showing it on the big screen up in our lodge. No need to worry about missing the game. You can catch the early evening bite and still make it in to see the game with a roomful of other enthusiastic fans.

See you on the ice! Go Vikes!
