Lake Winnie Ice Fishing Report for January 4, 2012

Happy New Year from Lake Winnie!

The fishing on the big lake has been good. Perch continue to go well. Nice per can be found in the North end, look to the humps, in 25 foot of water. Tamarac Bay and Ravens point are good. For perch at the East end, look to the shore drop-off at Moxey or in the stumps. 22 to 25 foot best depth. Perch are also being found in good numbers in the main lake bars with the drop down to 30 foot being best. Bena, Big Musky and out to the Bend are good. Also, check out North horseshoe. Toward the West side, look to Sugar or River Bar in the same depths for good perch action.

Walleye have been ok on the main lake bars and on some of the humps.

Pike fishing has been very good!

Ice conditions have still varied from 13 to 15 inches. But we are still making it slow than usual. The West side heave is still active, check before crossing. Once across the heave, the ice is fine. In the South, there is a live heave from Townsite to Duck Pass. In the Northeast, the heave runs around Tamarac Point toward the bay. 4-Wheeler traffic is the best way around as of now. Some places are letting lighter trucks out. Check in with the resort where you are accessing the lake, for up to the minute conditions.

It's a very fun time to be ice fishing with good fishing activity and mild weather conditions. See you on the ice!
