Lake Winnie Fishing Report for July 26, 2012

Hello, from Big Winnie!

The walleye bite has been better as of late for Lake Winnie walleyes. Trolling small crank baits over deeper weed tops and just outside of the weed beds has been good. Spinners and a minnow or a crawler are also working well. With this rig, fish in the same areas but just slow down a bit.

Rigging is working on the humps with crawlers and leeches. Weed beds have produced a mixed bag of fish. Perch, northern pike and a few walleye are being found together in these weed beds. Short plain hook snells of about 12 inches in length, tipped with half of a crawler or a leech gets their attention.

The water is getting warm and some tullipee are starting to die off.

Pike fishing gets really good as soon as they watch for dieing tullipee that swim around a bit on there way up to the top. This easy food tends to get them pretty excited.

Sunnies are still hot on several lakes in the area from 7 till dark. Look to the weeds edges in the 7 to 10 foot range. Small piece of worm or a two-inch grub tail has been the best. Be selective as some of the bigger sunnies take a while to grow up in this part of the state.

See you on the water!
