Lake Winnie Fishing Report for August 8, 2012

The Walleye bite is still going! Trolling has been the best to cover lots of territory. Spinners trolled fast in the 1.2 to 2.0 mph range has been the best. From the bar tops, troll for suspended fish, 4 to 10 feet down. Edges of the bars and also the weed edges, troll a foot off the bottom. Crawlers, leeches and minnows are all producing. Sometimes ALL work during the same day. Crankbaits are also working at times. Smaller cranks are working best. The fish are loaded with very young perch that are about 1-inch long. The walleyes are very are aggressive when they hit right now, which is pretty fun.

Perch are still on fire! Fish the weeds for numbers of fish, but you will need to sort through to find perch of good size. The rocky areas hold the better numbers of bigger fish. Jigs and minnows are the best way to put them in the boat.

Pike fishing is good. Trolling spoons or large crankbaits at the weed edges is working well. You can also bobber fish or cast the weed beds, moving along till you contact pike. West side weeds have been best for bobber fishing and casting. Weedy bar tops are best for trolling.

See you on the water!
