Lake Winnie Fishing Report for May 29, 2013

Hello, from Big Winnie. The fishing is good now! Shallow water walleyes are going quite well around the lake. The shiner bite is on for walleyes right now. Work shiners in 4 to 10 feet depths of water. The walleyes are keying on shiners now and they are really active. The bait schools are running well along the shorelines and the walleye are all over them. Run 1/8 oz. jigs and shiner, move along quickly till you hit a couple fish, work the area a bit, several more will be caught. Glow jigs and parrot jigs are working well, with some blue jigs has been very successful. Walleyes have been caught all around the lake and pretty easy to find. From the east side to Duck pass, Townsight to the Bird Houses has been hot. Sugar Island to Mallard is a great place to find walleyes. North shore Farley to the rock pile is producing. The Gap has been good for several large fish - which is quite fun to hit. Fish are moving throughout the lake - it's a great time to be chasing walleyes with kids - not hard to find at all.

The perch bite has been very good, also. They are ending spawn and all sizes are being caught together. Kids are having an absolute ball catching perch right now.

We are seeing good northern pike right now and pike fishermen are pleased with the success. The trollers are trolling mid-size crankbaits in the 4 to 6 inch range have been doing well. Some larger walleye are being caught on these rigs and surprising pike fishermen with a bonus.

Water temps are in the low to mid 50 degree range.

Time to go fishing!!! The next 2-3 weeks should be incredible fishing - especially for kids ages 5-16. Lots of action, great success and a fresh meal of fish is the best recipe for making lifelong fisherpeople.
