Lake Winnie Fishing Report for July 4, 2013

Hello, from Big Winnie. The walleye bite is a bit spotty right now and the windier days have proven much better fishing, as of late. Bar and Hump fish produce well in the wind. Leeches and crawlers on a plain hook rig are working best. Jig and minnows for perch has been far better for sizable fish on the same water. Moses and Horseshoe, on the west side Bena Bar from the Big Bend out thru Long Bar is good. Humps to look at are north and west of Third River bar thru the Big Island. The humps off Big Stoney also produce in the wind. The weed fish, on calmer days, can be picked on jigs and minnows. Perch are in the weed beds BIG TIME, however. Yet, if you want perch, that's where to find them.

The pike bite is good all around. Cranks trolled or spoons cast in the weed beds has been working well.

Crappie and sunfish are going well in area lakes on the first weed edges. About an hour before dark and sun up till 9 p.m. is good. Look for panfish on Cutfoot (Big and Little), also Portage and Little Ball Club have been good panfish lakes. Bite windows are plentiful, but short.

Time to go fishing, see you on the lake!
