Fishing Report for April 20, 2009

The ice fishing season is over and the lakes in the north country are really no longer safe for walking. Out in front of the resort we have open water and it's great to see the loons return along with the migrating hooded mergansers and barrows goldeneyes as they wait for the ice to open up on the lakes throughout Canada.

This is a great time of year to re-organize the tackle boxes and assess what needs to be replaced, what worked and what gimmick lure was a waste to buy. I'll spend a lot of time organizing different size jig heads and color combinations - making sure I have plenty of each. I'll also re-wrap my lindy rigs and other crawler harnesses to make sure the line is good, the knots are strong and they are ready for the opener in a few short weeks.

If you haven't already marked your calendars, the opener is May 9 - the day before Mother's Day. Why can't they change that for us? Why does it have to be the same weekend?

Our cabins and motel units are rapidly filling in May and June. If you haven't already booked your summer vacations with us, you may want to make a call in the next week or two.

I'd like to thank one of our regular ice fishing guests, Brent Anderson, for his assistance in getting our new Web site developed and organizing the pictures and content. We're pretty proud of it and believe that it will help answer a lot of questions that new visitors have before they arrive. If you have digital photos that you would like to share with us, we will gladly post them in our photo gallery. Just email them to me and we can get them posted in a few days. Or, if you have photos that you'd like us to add to our wall of legends, you can send prints and we'll hang them up the same day.

From all of us at Denny's Resort, we look forward to seeing you this summer and are wishing you a safe and successful fishing season.
