Lake Winnie Ice Fishing Report for January 1, 2015

Happy New Year! The fishing, as of late, has been generally good. Perch are active around the lake. They have set-up on the shallow side, from 6 to 12 feet of water on shore drops, feeding on minnows. A secondary area has been the main lake bar and hump drops. 20 to 35 feet deep. These fish are bug eaters. Moxey's Hole, east Snag Hole and Sugar, on the west side and the humps north and west of Third River Bar have all put fish on the ice.

The Walleye bite has gotten better after the cold front. Look toward the tops of the structure in 15 to 20 feet of water. Minnows and plain hooks have been the best option.

Pike are crazy all around the lake. Nobody can get skunked here right now thanks to Mr. Pike. Sucker minnows are better for larger fish, all others will eat anything you fish walleye or perch.

Ice conditions are very good at 17 to 19 inches on the bottom end. No snow. Bring your ice cleats. We do have a couple of heaves but the resorts have found safe ways around them. Check into a resort or bait shop for there roads out to the fishing areas.

See you on the lake!
