Lake Winnie Fishing Report for May 14, 2015

Hello, from Big Winnie. The opener came in with a bang! Plenty of fish were caught, most anglers reported 10 to 40 fish with a keeper ratio of 3 to 10. Jigs and shiners in the 10 to 14 foot range were working well. Northern parts of the lake, as usual, were the best spots. Mallard point around the the north shore through Tamarac Bay and down the east side to the High Banks area. The new slot (18 to 23 inches) put-back was popular, with fish at 17 inches coming in being about average. We did see a few over 23 with 27-1/2 inches being the biggest.

Perch bite was good. Most fish were caught while walleye fishing.

Pike are still crazy, a spill-over from winter. Numerous fish from 23 to 27 inches were caught.

Water temps are in the fifty degree range. Look to better and better fishing as the water warms up. Everyone around the lake has shiners now as we had a more normal ice out.

Time to go fishing!
