Lake Winnie Fishing Report for September 1, 2015

The Big Winnie walleye bite is as HOT as the weather is right now. We have had stable weather and winds for ten days now. Patterns have set up well and fishing is excellent! Walleye can be caught in 5 to 7 feet of water early and late in the day. Look to weed edges and jig or rig just over the tops of the weeds. As the day progresses, move out to the 9 to 13 foot range and run spinners and crawlers or minnows. These fish are feeding several times a day. Move along quickly, 1.1 to 1.8 mph. Smaller crankbaits are also working, especially if the wind is up.

Pike fishing is also very good with numbers being caught on larger crankbaits fished in 7 to ten feet of water, outside the weed beds.

Perch fishing is spotty for bigger fish, they are all schooled together now and "sorting" the nice ones from the little ones is quite normal.

Time to get into some late summer fishing, fall will be here before you know it. It's also not a bad time to get up to the area to do some scouting and checking on deer stands.

See you on the lake!
