Lake Winnie Fishing Report for May 26, 2016

Hello, from Big Winnie!

The 2016 season opened with a BANG, weather and fishing wise. Walleye have been hungry and active since the opener. Play the wind, fish spots where the wind is rolling along. In the West, the Bird House area is going well, in 9 to 15 feet of water. Sugar Island area, in 8 to 13 feet and the Raven Rocks, out to 18 feet have been consistent, all with jigs and minnows. If the bite slows, rig a leech and slow down for extra bites. At the North end, Big Stoney point out to the humps have been very good. Also, some nice perch being caught in this area, right alongside the walleyes. Jigs and minnows are working the best. Farley and Pigeon River Rocks, out to 14 feet have been good. Tamarack Point to the Birches have been going strong also, in 10 to 16 feet of water - using the same baits. The main lake bars are holding some walleye also. Look to Bena, from the start out to the BigBend. The tops have been the best, 12 to 18 feet of water, using rigs or jigs.

Panfish are getting started with their spawning rituals. Look to Sugar, Tamarack Bay, Cutfoot Lakes, all are good locations, where the reeds that are starting to pop up.

Fishing is good right now as fish have been dispersed all around the lake.

Time to go fishing!!
