LAKE WINNIE FISHING REPORT
Hello from Big Winnie. Ice conditions are a challenge this year . The lake varies from 12 to 18 inches. Depending on what area you are fishing. We have 12 to 20 inches of snow on the lake. Most spots have 6 to 10 inches of slush under the snow. Travel is best with snow machines. Atv and Utvs that are tracked up. You need to check into the area resorts for the conditions on there areas on the lake.
Walleye bite has been consistent early and late in the day. Mostly smaller fish with some slots. Plain hook minnow has been the best option. Jigging spoons with a minnow head will bring them in . Most times the plain hook then will get the bite.
Pout bite is active just as the walleye evening bite ends. Bigger spoons and a few fatheads works well. Fish the same water as walleye from 15 to 19 feet.
Perch have been spotty. When the sun shines we get a bite from 10 am till 2 pm. Cloudy days it is sporadic at best.
These tougher ice conditions should get better with an extended period of colder weather. Until that happens travel in pairs is a good idea, just in case one needs to pull the other out.
See you on the lake. Pat.
