Lake Winnie Ice Fishing Report for January 10, 2018

Hello, from Big Winnie! The walleye bite continues to be best later in the day and into the evening hours. Be ready from 4:00 pm till 11:00 pm, most nights. Using a plain hook has been best with whole minnows. Look to the main shore drops from 10 to 18 feet of water, and the bar tops down the sides to the same depths. Very cloudy ways can get the walleye bite started earlier than 4:00 pm.

Perch fishing has been good with nice numbers of perch being caught in the 6 to 15 foot depth range. Small jigs and fatheads has been best. Perch will bite throughout the day, but cloudy days help make the action more continuous.

Pike are still CRAZY all day with bigger sucker minnows. You may not love the taste of pike, but with so many to be caught, I would suggest exploring recipes for pickled pike and share finished jars with friends and family.

Ice conditions are good with 22 to 24 inches of ice in most spots. As always, check in with a resort for the area you would like to fish before venturing out. It really is the safest tactic you can use when ice fishing. Time to go fishing!
