LAKE WINNIE FISHING REPORT

Hello from Big Winnie. Hope all had a Merry Christmas.

Walleye action is good . Algae blooms are making the water dark for this time of the year. Good for the fish and good for catching fish. Spearing has been a challenge though. Walleye action going well. Bar tops from 12 to 16 feet good. Shore drops from 15 in to 11 has been good. Darker water shallower bite. Dead stick baits good. Glow lures way better than shinny . Fat heads if they are larger, or shiners the way to go.

Pike are hot now . Large suckers on tip ups fished three to six feet off bottom. Look on the tops of the structures with green weeds. We have quite a few weed beds remaining green. Most are set up in ten to 15 feet of water.

Perch action a bit better on the west side. Still able to sit on a school for more than a day. Making some big moves. We get some in 8 feet of water and the next day they move out to 20 feet.

Ice sitting at 151/2 to 16 most of the lake. We did find a pool of water north of the question mark hump that has ten inches. If you want to cruise the lake sleds or atvs the way to go. We got 14 inches of snow on the lake. Plowed roads are open though. Check into the resort you want to access from for a road report. Time to go fishing. Pat.
